5 Moderate Walks with the best views in Queenstown

Queenstown Hill

Though this one is short at only 1.5km, don’t be fooled, it is quite steep! You’ll be rewarded for your effort though with 360 degree panoramic views which feature The Remarkables, Cecil Peak and of course Lake Whakatipu. You may be wondering why the name “time walk”, we’ll I’m glad you asked. It was designed to portray the past, present and future of Queenstown. There are 6 information stations about Queenstown's history which includes the present-day status as adventure capital of the world, right back to Māori settlements and the Gold Rush. For me, Queenstown Hill is a must for visitors as it’s views are unrivaled.

Duration: 45min - 2.5 hours return

Wye Creek Walking Track

We’ll be honest, this one will get your heart rate going. We’ll also guarantee you'll be glad you ticked it off. Less than a 10 minute drive from us at Driftaway Queenstown, you’ll be treated to a hike through the forest, past a waterfall that meets lake Whakatipu and an epic viewing platform to sit and have your lunch. Due to the nature of the steep rock faces nearby, you may even see some rock climbers scaling the steep walls adjacent to the track.

This Track is at the top end of a moderate walk but definitely worth the puffing it takes to get up there! Tip: Make it a sunrise mission for some incredible scenes in the early morning.

Once at the top grab and ice cream, cold drink or even have a go at luging! If your legs are a little tired you can always catch the gondola back down too.
