Why Visit Queenstown In Winter

It’s no secret we have some of the best scenery in the world and do you know when it's at its best? Winter. The Remarkables mountain range is covered in snow, town is bustling with people roaming the streets enjoying mulled wine and the 360 degree views are a bit of a draw card too. Below are some of the reasons why we love Queenstown in Winter.

The skiing

If you’re a fan of getting on the slopes then this one is for you! Queenstown is home to some of the best skiing in New Zealand. We have two ski fields both within a short drive from Driftaway so the choice is yours. Both ski fields have some great kids programs and if you’re a beginner there are options available too. Head up on a weekday to avoid the crowds and enjoy the great snow and views from the top of Coronet Peak or The Remarkables. Pop back and dry all your gear in our drying room so it’s ready for the next day!

Cozy Winter spots

Who doesn't love getting cozy by the fire while it's cold outside? There are lots of cozy spots around us and some with amazing history! Take a drive up the Crown Range and down into Cardrona to see the iconic Cardrona pub. Enjoy the open fire outside & a glass of mulled wine on a crisp winters day. Another favourite of ours is Gibbston Valley Tavern, out of the way a little bit, it’s likely to be quieter and has a cozy indoor and outdoor seating set up. We love grabbing a pizza and snuggling up by the fire! The third and final spot is The Boatshed, just a 10 minute walk from here you’ll find a cozy cottage on the lakes edge that is warm and filled with all kinds of yummy treats to eat while staring out at the mountains and lake - seriously a great view.

Scenery that will blow your mind

Drive to, walk, bike or run around any of the tracks and trails here in Queenstown. You’ll find a number of different options with something suitable for everyone. In the Wintertime the days are usually chilly so rug up warm. Winter is my favourite time to explore local trails with family and friends, there is always lots to see and some great photo opportunities pretty much everywhere you look!

Hot tubs

Need we say more…a shameless plug for our incredible hot tubs with some of the best views in Queenstown. Pop by and have a soak to soothe sore muscles or to keep warm!

Whether you're in town for a while or just here for a quick visit there’s always time for something fun and we’re so lucky here that we have so many options that surround us! If you’re here and the weathers a little chilly you can always make use of our indoor games room, TV lounge and anything else you’d like at our facility hub. Winter is our favourite time of the year down here and we could go on forever with what things to do and see but you’d be reading a while!
